About S. Kay Burnett

My art is an extension of my journal writing and storytelling.
It reflects places I love, people or objects that intrigue me, and life experiences that have evoked strong emotions.
I love rich colors, unusual perspectives, and sculptural textures. And I love a good story.

During my thirty-four years in the computer industry, I worked as a scientific programmer, developed interactive software for children, wrote online documentation, published and presented scientific papers, taught interactive creative writing as a guest artist at the CSU Summer Arts program, and taught several interactive multimedia workshops.

I’m always looking for new tools for telling stories visually. I use workshops, books, and self exploration to learn about various art mediums. In 2008, I took a weekend workshop  and fell in love with encaustic painting .

In 2013, I began pursuing my love of art and creative writing full-time. I’m the author and illustrator for “Emails From Paris,” a memoir/art book that includes over thirty encaustic illustrations. I also collaborated with my husband, Gerry Burnett, to write and illustrate "A Gargoyle in Paris," a children’s picture book illustrated with encaustic sculptures.
